Songs of Antonette Mendes: popularly known as Antonette Mendes, was born on May 10, 1944, in Mumbai, Chira Bazar Street. Antonette Mendes, a famous actress and singer loved by many, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 80 on April 7, 2024.
Her father, A.K. D’Souza, was a multi-talented individual who worked on ships and was also well-known on the Konkani stage. Her mother managed the role of a homemaker.
Antonette, the eldest child, had a deep passion for music from a young age, participating in church activities and school extracurriculars. Her elder sister, Fatima, was already a prominent figure on the Konkani stage, and her father had connections with renowned Konkani personalities such as Miguel Rod and Kid Young Rod.
At the age of 15, Antonette made her debut in her father’s home production tiatr titled “Aum to Tarvotti,” meaning “It’s me, the Seaman.”
Antonette embarked on extensive international tours with various tiatr troupes, visiting destinations across East Africa, Canada, England, Germany, London, Dubai, Muscat, and Doha.
Throughout this period, she collaborated with esteemed directors such as J. P. Souzalin, Kid Boxer, Master Vaz, C. Alvares, Prem Kumar, Alfred Rose, M. Boyer, Remmie Colaco, Joe Rose, Jacint Vaz, Bab Peter, Rosario Rodrigues, Mendes Brothers, Anil Kumar, Tita Preto, H. Britton, Paul Romy, and others.
With the assistance of her husband, Romeo Mendes, she produced a total of 15 audio albums in the year 1980.
